Local 6434 President Tyrone Freeman has been removed from the payroll and faces formal dismissal pending an internal hearing, according to a union official who asked not to be named. Freeman went on paid leave last month, following disclosures by The Times about the local's spending practices.
Most of the findings mirror The Times' reports, although an SEIU report contains new allegations that Freeman spent union funds on his Hawaiian wedding and improperly paid himself stipends through an affiliated local and a housing corporation. The nine-page report from a union trustee to SEIU Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger was obtained by The Times.
